Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has issued a strong warning against individuals assaulting officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), vowing that perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law.
The governor made this declaration on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in response to the increasing reports of violent attacks against LASTMA personnel across the state. Speaking during a public engagement in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu condemned the trend, describing it as not only unacceptable but also a direct affront to law enforcement and public order.
“We will not tolerate any act of violence against our traffic officials. These men and women are working tirelessly under difficult conditions to ensure free flow of traffic and public safety. Anyone who raises a hand against them will be made to face the consequences,” he stated.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the government is determined to uphold the dignity and safety of civil servants and would not allow criminal elements to undermine state institutions. He further instructed the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Justice to fast-track the prosecution of all suspects currently in custody over similar incidents.
In recent weeks, several cases of attacks on LASTMA officials have been recorded, with videos surfacing online showing officers being manhandled or harassed by motorists and commercial drivers.
LASTMA, established to manage traffic and reduce congestion across Lagos roads, has often been caught in the crossfire between enforcing the law and public resistance. Sanwo-Olu, however, assured that measures are being taken to protect the officials, including equipping them with body cameras and increasing police support during enforcement operations.
The governor also urged residents to treat all public officials with respect, reiterating that law and order are the bedrock of a functioning society.
