Makkah, Saudi Arabia – In preparation for the 2025 Hajj season, Saudi authorities have deployed 18 advanced weather monitoring stations across Makkah and the Holy Sites, including Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah, to ensure the safety and comfort of millions of pilgrims.
The initiative, spearheaded by the National Center for Meteorology (NCM), is part of a broader effort by the Saudi government to leverage technology for enhanced crowd and climate management during the pilgrimage. The stations are equipped with real-time data collection systems capable of monitoring temperature, humidity, wind speed, and other key atmospheric variables.
Officials say the deployment will help anticipate weather-related risks such as heatwaves, thunderstorms, or strong winds — allowing for timely alerts and coordinated emergency response plans.
“These stations provide precise, up-to-the-minute weather updates. This allows Hajj authorities to make informed decisions to safeguard pilgrims from potential climate-related hazards,” said an NCM spokesperson.
The data will also support logistical planning, including the scheduling of pilgrim movement, provision of cooling systems, and deployment of health and emergency services.
Saudi Arabia has continued to prioritize the safety of pilgrims by integrating smart technology into its Hajj operations, reinforcing its commitment to a secure and spiritually enriching experience for all attendees.
