Saudi Authorities Ban Cooking Gas Cylinders at Holy Sites Ahead of Hajj 2025

In a renewed effort to ensure the safety of millions of Muslim pilgrims during the 2025 Hajj season, Saudi Arabian authorities have officially banned the use of cooking gas cylinders in the holy sites of Mina, Muzdalifah, and Arafat.

The General Directorate of Civil Defense announced that the restriction—effective from the first day of Dhul-Hijjah (May 28, 2025)—applies to all sizes and types of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. The ban covers both government-managed and privately operated camps and facilities within the designated Hajj areas.

The measure, which has been consistently enforced in previous years, is aimed at preventing fire outbreaks and other safety hazards that could arise from the use of open flames and gas equipment in densely populated areas. Authorities have urged Hajj organizers, service providers, and pilgrims to comply strictly with the directive and to adopt alternative, approved means for food preparation.

Saudi officials reiterated that the safety and security of pilgrims remain a top priority, and that such proactive steps are essential to delivering a smooth and incident-free pilgrimage. The ban is one of several regulations put in place to uphold order and protect lives during the annual religious gathering, which attracts Muslims from across the globe.

As the 2025 Hajj season draws near, the Kingdom has continued to roll out safety advisories and logistical measures to facilitate a secure and spiritually fulfilling experience for all pilgrims.
