The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in data management as part of its renewed commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This was disclosed during a strategic meeting involving key ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), organized by the Office of the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals and Investments. The meeting focused on enhancing the accuracy, accessibility, and integration of data across government systems to drive evidence-based policy decisions and efficient SDG implementation.
Speaking at the session, the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs and Investments, Mrs. Solape Hammond, stressed that effective data coordination is critical to tracking progress, identifying gaps, and improving the impact of government interventions. “We cannot drive sustainable development without credible and harmonized data. Our aim is to foster a unified data ecosystem that empowers all stakeholders to deliver measurable results,” she said.
Participants from various agencies, including the Lagos Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, agreed to streamline data-sharing protocols, adopt modern analytical tools, and establish a centralized SDG reporting framework.
The initiative is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ development agenda, which prioritizes transparency, efficiency, and sustainable governance. It also aligns with global best practices in monitoring SDG targets and ensuring that development planning is inclusive, responsive, and impactful.
With this renewed collaboration, Lagos aims to become a model sub-national entity in Africa for sustainable development data management, ensuring that no one is left behind in the state’s development journey.
