As Christian faithful across Nigeria commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ this Easter weekend, security agencies have reassured citizens of their commitment to maintaining peace and order throughout the celebrations.
From the military to the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), a coordinated deployment strategy has been activated nationwide to forestall any threat to public safety, KIIN360 can report.
Troops on High Alert, Defence Chief Calls for Renewed Commitment
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, in his Easter goodwill message, paid tribute to the nation’s armed forces, linking the symbolic meaning of Easter — sacrifice, courage, and triumph — to the unrelenting efforts of Nigerian troops battling insecurity in various parts of the country.
“Every day, our soldiers mirror the spirit of Easter through their bravery and loyalty. Their service is the backbone of our national stability,” Gen Musa said.
He urged personnel within the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to use the reflective season to recommit to professionalism, discipline, and the overarching security objectives of the military.
While honouring fallen heroes and praying for the recovery of wounded soldiers, the Defence Chief expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support towards boosting national security architecture.
NSCDC Intensifies Operations in Kwara, Katsina
In Kwara State, no fewer than 2,680 NSCDC operatives have been stationed across strategic points, including churches, entertainment hubs, and critical infrastructure, to ensure a smooth celebration.
The State Commandant, Dr Umar Mohammed, disclosed that the command had developed a robust operational plan to avert any form of disruption during the holiday period.
Similarly, the Katsina NSCDC Command confirmed the deployment of 2,100 officers across the state. State Commandant, Aminu Datti Ahmad, said the move is geared towards safeguarding national assets and ensuring civil order. The command, according to its Public Relations Officer, Buhari Hamisu, has tasked operatives with maintaining high levels of civility and alertness.
Police Commands Unveil Strategic Deployment Nationwide
In Sokoto State, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa stated that the command had deployed both conventional and tactical personnel, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, to provide airtight security during and after Easter.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Ahmad Rufa’i, mounted troops and undercover operatives are also part of the plan to ensure seamless coordination and crowd control in sensitive areas.
The Kano State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, also issued a directive for intensified visibility patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance across religious centres, motor parks, and recreational spots.
PPRO Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement to journalists, emphasized inter-agency collaboration as central to the command’s Easter security plan.
In Ogun State, Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo activated a comprehensive strategy to secure key entry points and high-traffic zones, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and border towns like Idiroko and Alapako.
Spokesperson Omolola Odutola said the command is focusing on worship centres, markets, and financial institutions, with increased patrols to preempt criminal activities.
Traditional Ruler Urges Unity Against Insecurity
Meanwhile, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has charged Nigerians to remain united in the face of violence and extremism.
In a message signed by his media aide, Bode Durojaiye, the monarch condemned the persistent bloodshed in parts of the country and urged citizens to stand firm against “blood guzzlers and enemies of state.”
Oba Owoade described Easter as a time for sober reflection and a call to reassert the nation’s collective will against chaos and barbarism.
As Nigerians celebrate Easter, security forces remain on standby, assuring all law-abiding citizens of a safe and peaceful holiday season.
