Senate Applauds Nigeria Customs Service for Robust Revenue Generation at Kano/Jigawa Command

The Nigerian Senate has commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its impressive revenue performance at the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, describing the command’s achievements as a model for other regions.

Members of the Senate Committee on Customs and Excise, led by Senator Jibrin Isah, gave the commendation during an oversight visit to the command’s headquarters in Kano on Tuesday, May 21, 2025.

Senator Isah, who represented the Senate President during the tour, praised the leadership of the command for surpassing its revenue targets and contributing significantly to the nation’s non-oil revenue base. He noted that the command’s operational efficiency and transparency in revenue collection aligned with the Federal Government’s drive for economic diversification.

“The Kano/Jigawa Area Command has set a commendable standard in revenue generation. Your performance gives us confidence that our customs service can support Nigeria’s economic development goals,” the senator said.

In his response, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana, expressed gratitude for the Senate’s support and reiterated the command’s commitment to enhancing border security, trade facilitation, and compliance with extant regulations.

He disclosed that the command collected over ₦40 billion in revenue within the first four months of 2025, a figure that surpasses previous records for the same period.

Chana also highlighted the command’s efforts in anti-smuggling operations, improved stakeholder engagement, and ongoing capacity-building initiatives aimed at boosting efficiency among officers.

The Senate Committee pledged continued legislative backing to strengthen customs operations and ensure the deployment of modern infrastructure to support trade and revenue generation.
