Abuja, July 10, 2025 — The Senate, under President Godswill Akpabio, has removed Senator Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan from the chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Diaspora & NGOs, appointing Senator Aniekan Etim Bassey (PDP, Akwa Ibom North‑East) as her replacement.
The change is part of a wider committee reshuffle announced earlier this year, aimed at enhancing oversight effectiveness and addressing performance concerns across key committees .
Senator Bassey, previously serving as Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development, brings extensive legislative experience, including four years as Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly .
The decision to move Senator Akpoti‑Uduaghan followed disciplinary issues earlier this year, including her suspension over procedural infractions within the Senate, though she had initially been appointed to the committee in February .
