U.S. Senator Tom Cotton has issued a strong condemnation of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, warning that the Islamic Republic must be stopped from acquiring nuclear weapons, especially in light of its history of hostility toward American interests.
Speaking during an appearance on a national news programme, the Arkansas Republican and prominent foreign policy hawk declared:
Cotton, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has long been a vocal critic of the Iranian regime and a proponent of hardline U.S. policies in the Middle East. His comments come amid a dangerous escalation between Iran and Israel, with military confrontations raising fears of a wider regional war.
The Senator called for stronger international sanctions and unified Western pressure to halt Iran’s uranium enrichment, stating that diplomacy alone has proven insufficient.
Cotton’s remarks reflect growing bipartisan concern in Washington over Tehran’s nuclear programme, particularly in light of recent intelligence suggesting Iran may have resumed high-level nuclear development activities.
His comments are expected to stir further debate in Congress over America’s role in the current crisis and the future of the Iran nuclear deal, which was abandoned in 2018 under President Donald Trump.
