The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has distanced himself from his Personal Assistant, Andrew Torhile Uchi, who is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of corruption, bribery, and money laundering.
This was made known through a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen.
OSGF Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency
The statement clarified that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) is in no way connected to the allegations against Uchi and reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance.
**”The attention of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has been drawn to the ongoing investigation by the EFCC involving Hon. Andrew Torhile Uchi, Personal Assistant to the SGF, concerning allegations of corruption, bribery, and money laundering.
It is imperative to categorically state that the leadership of this office is not involved in any form of misconduct. The OSGF has always maintained a firm stance on ethical governance and remains committed to the principles of due process and accountability,”** the statement read.
EFCC’s Investigation and the Call for Caution
While acknowledging the EFCC’s efforts in investigating the matter, the OSGF urged the public to refrain from speculating or making premature conclusions as the case is still under investigation.
“We recognize and appreciate the efforts of the EFCC in ensuring that those found culpable are held accountable. However, we call on the public to allow the investigative process to run its course without undue assumptions or misinformation,” the statement added.
SGF’s Stance on Corruption and Ethical Governance
The SGF’s firm disassociation from his embattled aide underscores the government’s resolve to ensure that all public officials and their associates are held to the highest standards of conduct. This also aligns with the administration’s broader anti-corruption stance, reinforcing that no individual is above the law.
Furthermore, the OSGF reassured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to serving the country with transparency and accountability, emphasizing that it will continue to support all legitimate anti-corruption efforts in the interest of national development.
As investigations into Uchi’s alleged financial misconduct continue, the government has assured that due process will be followed and justice will prevail, ensuring that anyone found guilty faces the full weight of the law.
