Yelewata, Benue State – June 17, 2025
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, paid a significant visit to Yelewata, a rural community in Benue State, as part of his ongoing efforts to engage directly with grassroots populations and reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to security, development, and inclusion.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday, comes amid growing concerns over recurring clashes and instability in some parts of the North-Central region. Addressing a gathering of traditional rulers, youth leaders, and community members, Akume assured residents of the government’s resolve to restore lasting peace and boost development initiatives across vulnerable areas.
“The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to leave no community behind in the ongoing push for peace, unity, and national progress,” the SGF declared.
Akume, a former governor of the state and a native of Benue, noted that the plight of internally displaced persons (IDPs), rural infrastructure challenges, and agricultural disruptions in communities like Yelewata are already receiving urgent attention at the federal level.
The visit also served as a listening tour, as Akume held private consultations with key stakeholders on how best to improve local security, support farming activities, and foster inter-communal harmony.
Residents welcomed the SGF’s visit, expressing renewed optimism and a sense of inclusion in national decision-making processes.
His presence in Yelewata is seen as both symbolic and strategic, especially as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to drive rural development under its Renewed Hope Agenda.
