ABEOKUTA — The Rector of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, Dr. Kehinde Job-Olatunji, has issued a strong warning to newly admitted students against engaging in cultism, bullying, and other anti-social behaviours that could jeopardize their future.
Dr. Job-Olatunji gave the advice during the institution’s matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session, where hundreds of students officially took the oath of admission. She emphasized that the polytechnic has zero tolerance for any form of misconduct that undermines the peace, discipline, and academic integrity of the institution.
“You are here to build your future, not to destroy it,” the Rector said. “Cultism, bullying, examination malpractice, and any form of violence are completely unacceptable on this campus. Anyone found engaging in such acts will face the full weight of the law and appropriate disciplinary measures.”
The Rector also reminded students of their primary purpose for being in the institution and urged them to focus on their academic pursuits, moral uprightness, and self-development. She encouraged them to take advantage of the school’s resources, especially in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), to gain relevant skills for the global job market.
Dr. Job-Olatunji further noted that the institution remains committed to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment where students can thrive academically and socially.
Parents, guardians, staff, and dignitaries present at the ceremony lauded the administration for its consistent stance on discipline and the continuous investment in infrastructure and academic development.
With cult-related violence and bullying continuing to pose threats in Nigerian tertiary institutions, the Rector’s charge comes as a timely reminder for students to shun peer pressure and uphold positive values that will shape their future for good.
