Sinner Stuns Djokovic to Reach Wimbledon Final and Set Up Alcaraz Showdown

Jannik Sinner produced a sensational performance to dismantle Novak Djokovic in straight sets and book his place in the Wimbledon 2025 final, where he will face defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. The 23-year-old Italian swept past the seven-time Wimbledon winner 6-3 6-3 6-4 in a dominant semi-final display at the All England Club.

The ruthless victory ended Djokovic’s pursuit of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title and raised fresh questions about the Serbian legend’s future in the sport. Sinner, who lost to Alcaraz in a five-set thriller at last month’s French Open final, will now have a chance to avenge that heartbreaking defeat when both men go head-to-head again for the prestigious Wimbledon crown.

Djokovic, 38, admitted after the match that age and fatigue had caught up with him. “These guys are fit, young, sharp. I feel like I am going into the match with the tank half empty. It is just not possible to win a match like that,” said the Serbian, who required a medical timeout after the second set. “I do not think it is bad fortune. It is just age, the wear and tear of the body.”

Sinner, the current world number one, made his breakthrough into the Wimbledon final after falling short in the quarter-final and semi-final stages in previous editions. His win over Djokovic was his first against the Serbian on grass and extended his winning streak over the former world number one to six matches.

From the first serve, Sinner displayed confidence and precision, overpowering Djokovic in the rallies and dictating the tempo throughout the match. He broke early in each of the first two sets, with Djokovic unable to muster a single break point until the third. Despite briefly threatening a comeback, the Serbian faltered under pressure, with Sinner breaking back and then winning five consecutive games to seal the match.

The victory marks Sinner’s fifth Grand Slam final appearance and his first at Wimbledon. His only major title so far came on hard court, making Sunday’s clash with Alcaraz a chance to lift his first Grand Slam trophy on grass.

Speaking after the match, Sinner said, “It is a huge honour for me to share the court again with Carlos. Hopefully it will be a good match like the last one. I do not know if it can be better because I do not know if that is possible, but we will try and hopefully it will be an enjoyable match.”

Carlos Alcaraz reached the final earlier in the day after defeating Taylor Fritz 6-4 5-7 6-3 7-6 in a tense four-set semi-final played under sweltering conditions. The highly anticipated final between Alcaraz and Sinner promises to deliver another thrilling chapter in what is becoming one of the great modern rivalries in men’s tennis.

While Djokovic hinted he will return to Wimbledon at least once more, his loss in the semi-final marked his first at the tournament since 2012 and may signal a shift in the tennis landscape as a new generation begins to take centre stage.
