Remo Stars Football Club, nicknamed the Sky Blue Stars, is more than just a team—it’s a testament to the power of perseverance in one of Africa’s most competitive football landscapes.
From Humble Beginnings: The Birth of a Dream
Founded in 2004 by entrepreneur Kunle Soname as FC Dender, the club began as a modest amateur side training on local pitches in Ketu, Lagos State. For years, they toiled in obscurity until 2010, when their relentless efforts earned promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL), the country’s second division. This milestone marked the start of a transformative era.
In a bold move to cement their identity, the club relocated to Remoland in Ogun State and rebranded as Remo Stars Football Club in 2010. The new name symbolized a fresh start, and by 2016, their ambition bore fruit: promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), the nation’s top tier. However, the euphoria was short-lived. In 2018, relegation struck, sending the Sky Blue Stars back to the NNL.
Resilience and Redemption
True to their ethos, Remo Stars refused to fade. In September 2021, they clawed their way back to the NPFL, finishing second in the NNL playoff Group A. Their return to elite football signaled a new chapter, one defined by stability and growth. By the 2023–24 season, their home games at the newly constructed Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne drew an average crowd of 706 fans—a testament to their rising popularity in the Southwest region.
Identity: More Than Just a Color
The club’s sky-blue kits are more than a visual trademark—they embody a legacy. The home strip, featuring sky-blue shirts, white shorts, and striped socks, has become iconic. Over the years, partnerships with kit manufacturers like Owu and Cone and sponsors such as ValueJet and Bet9ja have bolstered their financial footing, reflecting their growing stature.
Fortress Ikenne: Building a Home
Remo Stars’ journey is also a tale of evolving homes. From makeshift pitches in Lagos to the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode, the club finally found permanence in 2023 with their state-of-the-art Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. This modern arena has become a fortress; by February 2025, the team had scored 19 goals there while conceding just four. A recent 2–1 victory over Kano Pillars—a match dubbed “Can Kano Pillars End Remo Stars’ Home Dominance?”—proved their tenacity.
Rivalries: Fueling the Fire

For Remo Stars, clashes with Gateway United and Ijebu United ignite local passion, while their Southwest Derby against Shooting Stars S.C. electrifies fans across the region. Continental Dreams: Stepping onto the African Stage
Remo Stars’ ambitions extend beyond Nigeria. Their debut in the 2022–23 CAF Confederation Cup and 2023–24 CAF Champions League qualifiers, though ending in the first round, signaled their continental aspirations. For a club valued at €1.5 million in 2022, these forays into African football are stepping stones toward greater glory.
