September 1, 2025 – Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing Islamic propagation, ranking it second only to security in his government’s Nine-Point Smart Agenda.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of 111 Qur’an memorizers in Sokoto, the governor highlighted new initiatives aimed at strengthening religious institutions across the state. These include the introduction of monthly allowances for Imams, their deputies, and Mu’azzins, as well as direct funding support for Jumu’at mosques.
Governor Aliyu noted that the measures were designed to ease the responsibilities of religious leaders, encourage dedication to Islamic teachings, and promote unity among communities. He emphasized that beyond infrastructure and economic reforms, his administration would continue to prioritize faith-based values as a guiding principle for governance.
The event, which drew clerics, community leaders, and families of the graduates, was described as a milestone in Sokoto’s enduring tradition of Islamic scholarship.
