Sokoto Govt Bolsters Security With Major Vehicle and Motorcycle Deployment

Sokoto, Nigeria –  September 5, 2025

The Sokoto State Government has expanded its security support to tackle banditry and rural insecurity, distributing hundreds of operational vehicles and motorcycles to security formations and the state-established Community Guard Corps.

In April and May 2025, Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration handed over 140 patrol vehicles to federal security agencies and supplied the Community Guard Corps with 40 Toyota Hilux vans and 700 motorcycles. This followed earlier distributions in September 2024, when the Corps received 20 Hilux vans and 710 motorcycles.

The state also announced in June 2024 plans to deliver an additional 40 vans and 1,000 motorcycles, reinforcing mobility in hard-to-reach communities. In October 2024, the government further donated 8 Buffalo trucks and 2 Hilux vans directly to military forces operating in the region, complementing federal security deployments.

Officials say these interventions respond to urgent requests for logistical support from the Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies. The administration has also upgraded the DSS tracker system to 5G, initiated construction of a new military base in Illela, and advanced work on an Air Force base in Sokoto.

Governor Aliyu has reiterated that his government remains committed to strengthening security architecture and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
