South-West Stakeholders Launch Action Plan, Advocate for Multimodal Transport to Spur Regional Growth

Ibadan, May 22, 2025 – Key stakeholders from Nigeria’s South-West region have unveiled a comprehensive action plan aimed at addressing the region’s socio-economic challenges and accelerating development. The 262-page document, launched Thursday, emphasizes the urgent need for a robust multimodal transport system to enhance connectivity and boost regional integration.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries: South-West Nigeria (ARHOSPS-SWN) in partnership with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission), gathered representatives from all six South-West states, including governors’ deputies and heads of service.

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, praised the plan as a critical tool in tackling rising security concerns and promoting development through improved inter-state transport infrastructure. He noted that enhancing road networks and adopting a multimodal approach would significantly impact economic growth and regional cooperation.

The action plan covers key sectors such as security, health, power, education, agriculture, and governance, with particular focus on improving safety through proposals like the establishment of state policing structures. Dr. Seye Oyeleye, Director-General of DAWN Commission, commended the comprehensive nature of the document, highlighting its alignment with the objectives of the newly formed South-West Regional Development Commission.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of South-West states to foster sustainable development, deepen regional cooperation, and build a resilient economy driven by efficient infrastructure and security frameworks.
