In a deeply moving experience, pilgrims from Ogun State on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, embarked on a spiritual tour (Ziyarah) of key Islamic historical sites in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The tour, part of the 2025 Hajj activities, offered a powerful reminder of the sacrifices and legacy of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), his family, and his companions.
Led by the Director of Administration at the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Shehu Sofola, the Ziyarah brought pilgrims face-to-face with sacred landmarks they had only read about in religious texts.
At each stop, Imam Inakoju Buhari, Head of Operations and Religion, provided rich historical context and spiritual guidance. He urged pilgrims to remain disciplined and united throughout the Hajj, drawing lessons from the Battle of Uhud where disobedience nearly cost the Muslim army dearly. “Let this be a reminder of why we must follow instructions and stay together as one,” he advised.
Among the sacred sites visited was Masjid Quba, the first mosque built in Islam. It was at this site that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companion Abu Bakr prayed after migrating from Mecca to Medina. Pilgrims who prayed at the mosque expressed joy and gratitude for fulfilling a long-held spiritual dream.
Another major highlight was Mount Uhud, the site of the famous Battle of Uhud. Pilgrims paid respects at the graves of the martyrs who died defending Islam. Many reflected on the bravery and sacrifice of those early Muslims and the relevance of their struggles in today’s world.
“I thank Allah for the chance to step on this blessed land. Seeing Masjid Quba and praying there has been the most emotional moment of my life,” said Ismail Oloungbebe, a first-time pilgrim.
Other pilgrims echoed his sentiments, noting that the visit had deepened their faith and given them a better understanding of Islamic history.
The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board was widely praised for its organization and leadership. Pilgrims prayed for the continued success of the Hajj exercise and safe return for all.
As the spiritual journey continues, the Ziyarah serves as a powerful reminder of the roots of Islam and the enduring lessons from the Prophet’s life—lessons of faith, unity, and sacrifice.
