SPSP Lagos Commends Sanwo-Olu on Peace and Security Efforts

Lagos, Nigeria | September 24, 2025

The Lagos State Branch of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and security, in commemoration of World Peace Day.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Richard Adeyinka Emmanuel, and General Secretary, Dr. Hasan Sulaimon, the association highlighted government interventions that, according to it, have contributed to stability in communities across the state.

Among the initiatives listed were the provision of 260 vehicles and modern security equipment to the Nigerian Police, including bulletproof vests, helmets, and body-worn cameras; the recruitment of 1,000 officers into the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps to enhance intelligence gathering; and the deployment of the Lagos Criminal Information System (LCIS) to improve criminal justice processes.

SPSP further noted the state’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual and gender-based violence, citing more than 140 convictions secured within the past year, as well as six restraining orders issued.

Victims of abuse, the group added, continue to benefit from free medical care, shelter, counselling, and legal assistance provided by the government.

While urging the administration to sustain these measures, the society observed that several areas once considered security flashpoints have recorded relative calm, which it attributed to the government’s interventions.

The commendation formed part of activities marking this year’s World Peace Day, observed annually on September 21.
