Super Eagles Slip to 45th in Latest FIFA Rankings

Lagos, Nigeria | September 18, 2025

Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have dropped one place in the latest FIFA World Rankings, falling from 44th to 45th globally while remaining sixth on the African continent.
The new rankings, released on 18 September 2025, reflect the team’s inconsistent performances in recent international fixtures under Coach Eric Chelle. The Super Eagles recorded two wins, one draw, and two losses in their most recent matches, contributing to a second consecutive decline in the global standings.
In Africa, Morocco maintains its position as the continent’s highest-ranked team at 11th in the world, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire. Nigeria now sits just behind Côte d’Ivoire and ahead of Tunisia, which has made notable gains.
The drop in rankings comes as Nigeria continues its 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, where the team is currently fourth in their group with only two matches remaining. Upcoming fixtures will be critical for the Super Eagles’ hopes of securing a place in the tournament.
The team’s recent decline underscores the need for improved performances to reclaim their position among Africa’s elite football nations.
