Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, secured a commanding 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses in an international friendly match held on Tuesday at the newly remodeled MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta.
The high-stakes encounter served as part of the Super Falcons’ preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with both teams fielding strong lineups reflective of their continental pedigree.
Goals from Asisat Oshoala in the first half and Rasheedat Ajibade in the second half sealed the win for the Nigerian side, delighting the home fans who turned out in large numbers for the free-entry event.
Speaking after the match, the Commissioner for Sports Development in Ogun State, Mr. Wasiu Isiaka, praised the Super Falcons for their professionalism and applauded the support of Governor Dapo Abiodun, noting that the administration had repositioned the state as a hub for sports tourism and athletic development.
“This victory is more than a game result—it’s a signal of Nigeria’s readiness for WAFCON and a reaffirmation of Ogun State’s role in promoting elite sports,” Isiaka said.
The match also renewed the storied rivalry between Nigeria and Cameroon in women’s football, with fans enjoying the skill, speed, and tactical discipline of both sides.
With this victory, the Super Falcons continue their unbeaten run in 2025 and move closer to peak form ahead of their quest for another continental title at the upcoming WAFCON tournament.
