Maiduguri, June 21, 2025 – At least twelve people were tragically killed and several others wounded following a female suicide bomber’s attack at a bustling fish market in Konduga, Borno State, on Friday evening.
Borno State Police spokesperson, Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed that the suspect infiltrated the crowded market before detonating an explosive device strapped to her body. Many of the wounded were rushed to nearby hospitals, with local residents reporting that up to thirty people sustained injuries in the blast .
While no group has officially claimed responsibility, analysts suggest the attack bears characteristics of extremist insurgent operations commonly attributed to Boko Haram and its splinter factions . Konduga has experienced repeated such attacks targeting civilians in public spaces, as part of a broader campaign of terror in the region.
Emergency response teams and security personnel secured the area, assisting in evacuation efforts and starting investigations to determine if others were involved. The attack underscores continued vulnerability despite ongoing efforts by the military and local authorities to restore safety and stability in the North-East.
