Syria Condemns Israeli Drone Strike Near Damascus, Reports Six Soldiers Killed

DAMASCUS |  August 27, 2025

Syria’s foreign ministry on Wednesday condemned an Israeli drone strike that struck military positions near the town of Kisweh, just south of Damascus, killing six soldiers the previous day.

State television reported that the soldiers died in the Tuesday attack, describing it as “a gross violation of international law and the United Nations Charter” and “a clear breach of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.”

International agencies noted discrepancies in the casualty toll, with some outlets citing eight fatalities. Independent verification of the figures has not yet been confirmed.

The strike is part of a series of Israeli operations in Syria since opposition forces ousted former president Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. Analysts estimate that Israel has conducted hundreds of strikes targeting military installations across Syria during this period.

While Israel has not issued an immediate statement on the Kisweh attack, officials have previously maintained that such operations are aimed at curbing threats along its northern border. Diplomatic sources also confirm that Israeli and interim Syrian authorities have held indirect talks in recent months to ease regional tensions.
