Tanzania Secures U-19 Cricket World Cup Ticket at Lagos Qualifier

Tanzania has emerged victorious in the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup African Qualifier held in Lagos, Nigeria, securing the sole ticket to represent Africa at the upcoming ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. The tournament, which ran from March 26 to April 6, 2025, featured six teams—Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, and Sierra Leone competing in a round-robin format for the coveted spot.

The matches were hosted at two iconic venues: the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket Oval and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Cricket Oval. Tanzania’s consistent performances throughout the tournament earned them the top position and the honor of representing the continent on the global stage.

This victory highlights Tanzania’s growing strength in youth cricket and their ability to compete against traditionally stronger teams like Namibia and Uganda. For Nigeria, which previously represented Africa at the 2020 U-19 World Cup, missing out on qualification was a disappointment despite hosting the event.

The success of the tournament underscores the increasing competitiveness of cricket in Africa and its potential to inspire a new generation of players across the continent.
