TCN Addresses Power Disruption: Three Towers Damaged in Ikeja-West/Osogbo Line Incident

In a recent development, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disclosed that a significant power disruption occurred due to the tripping of the Ikeja-West/Osogbo 330 kV transmission line. This incident, which took place during a windy rainfall on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, resulted in a substantial load loss of 165 megawatts. The tripping happened approximately 14.9 kilometers from the Ikeja-West Transmission Substation at about 9:22 pm.

According to Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, a thorough investigation revealed that the damage was caused by a trailer truck colliding with detached conductors on Tower 527, leading to the collapse of Tower 528. Additionally, Towers 526 and 524 were also affected by the incident. The TCN has assured that engineers are actively working to repair the damaged towers and restore normal bulk power supply to Ikeja, Eko, and Ibadan Distribution Companies (DISCOs).

To mitigate the impact of the power loss, TCN has successfully diverted the 165 MW load through other transmission lines to the affected DISCOs. This strategic move aims to minimize disruptions in power supply to consumers in Lagos, Oyo, and other regions served by these distribution companies. The TCN reiterated its commitment to ensuring efficient and reliable bulk electricity transmission across the country, emphasizing ongoing efforts to maintain high standards of service delivery despite such challenges.
