The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored bulk electricity supply to Bayelsa State and parts of Rivers State after completing repairs on its vandalized 132kV Owerri–Ahoada transmission line. The line was reconnected to the grid on April 11, marking a significant milestone in efforts to stabilize power supply in the region.
The vandalism incident, which occurred on March 11, resulted in the collapse of four transmission towers (T71 to T74), disrupting power supply to key substations in Ahoda, Gbarain, and Yenagoa. This outage affected the entire Bayelsa State and parts of Rivers State. TCN engineers worked diligently to repair the damaged infrastructure, ensuring that power could be restored to the affected areas.
With the line now operational, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) can supply electricity to Bayelsa and parts of Rivers State once again. TCN has emphasized its commitment to providing reliable power across the nation and has called on communities to join in combating the vandalism of critical transmission installations.
This restoration is part of broader efforts by TCN to enhance grid stability and mitigate power system disturbances. The company has also initiated a project to develop an advanced network monitoring system, leveraging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize grid operations.
