Tension at PDP Secretariat as Police Manhandle, Arrest Staff Member During NEC Meeting

A mild drama ensued at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Thursday during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, as police operatives reportedly manhandled and arrested one of the party’s workers.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred outside the main conference hall where the high-level meeting was ongoing. The staff member, whose identity has not been disclosed as of press time, was said to have had a confrontation with security personnel stationed at the entrance.

According to sources within the secretariat, the situation escalated when the worker was allegedly accused of breaching security protocols. This led to a physical altercation, during which police officers allegedly dragged and bundled the staff into a waiting patrol vehicle.

Party members and journalists present expressed shock at the development, with some condemning the excessive use of force. “This is unacceptable, especially in a democratic setting and within the premises of a major political party,” one senior PDP member said anonymously.

The motive behind the arrest remains unclear, but sources suggest internal security concerns may have prompted heightened surveillance and strict movement control during the NEC session, which featured top party leaders, governors, and former national officers.

The PDP is yet to officially comment on the incident, while the FCT Police Command has not issued a statement as of the time of filing this report.

Observers say such actions could heighten tension within the party as it navigates internal leadership issues and prepares for future electoral contests.
