Abuja, Nigeria | September 15, 2025 — The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy thunderstorms and widespread rainfall across the country over the coming days, cautioning that the conditions could trigger flash floods in vulnerable areas.
According to the forecast, intense downpours are expected in parts of the North Central, North West, and South West regions, with isolated thunderstorms likely in the South East and coastal areas of the South South. NiMet advised residents, especially those in flood-prone communities, to take precautionary measures as urban flooding, poor visibility, and flight disruptions may occur.
The agency also urged farmers, motorists, and airline operators to remain alert, stressing that adherence to weather updates would help minimize the risk of accidents and losses.
“Flooding remains a major threat during this peak of the rainy season. We strongly advise the public to clear blocked drainage channels, avoid driving or walking through flooded areas, and follow safety advisories from local authorities,” NiMet stated.
Disaster management agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), have been placed on standby to support communities likely to be affected.
