President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to improving food security and enhancing agricultural productivity by systematically eliminating structural bottlenecks hindering the sector.
Speaking during a bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, President Tinubu highlighted his administration’s efforts to transform Nigeria’s agriculture landscape through policy reforms, strategic investments, and collaboration with international partners.
Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria, as Africa’s most populous nation, cannot afford to be food-insecure. He noted that his administration is focused on tackling long-standing impediments such as poor infrastructure, limited access to credit, and low mechanization.
“We are removing all the obstacles—bureaucratic, logistical, and financial—that have stifled agricultural production for decades. Our goal is to make Nigeria not just self-sufficient in food, but a key exporter within Africa and beyond,” Tinubu said.
The President welcomed Brazil’s interest in deepening cooperation in agro-technology, bio-energy, and rural development, stating that Nigeria is eager to learn from Brazil’s successful large-scale farming models.
President Lula da Silva commended Nigeria’s drive and expressed readiness to share Brazil’s expertise in sustainable farming, mechanization, and agri-business development.
The meeting marks a renewed phase of bilateral engagement between the two countries, with a shared vision to leverage agriculture for inclusive growth and regional food stability.
