Tinubu Convenes Emergency FEC Meeting to Honour Former President Buhari

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has summoned an emergency session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The meeting will be exclusively dedicated to honouring Nigeria’s immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Presidency sources revealed that the session, which is to be held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, will reflect on the former President’s legacy and contributions to the country’s democratic and developmental journey during his eight-year tenure.

This marks the first time an emergency FEC meeting has been convened solely in tribute to a former Nigerian leader since the return to civilian rule in 1999. It underscores President Tinubu’s expressed commitment to consolidating and recognising the foundational pillars laid by his predecessor.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, confirmed that Tuesday’s agenda will be ceremonial in nature, featuring tributes, reflections, and formal acknowledgments of the former president’s impact on security, infrastructure, and anti-corruption.

Expected at the session are Vice President Kashim Shettima, ministers, service chiefs, heads of federal agencies, and top presidential aides.

Former President Buhari, who handed over power to Tinubu on May 29, 2023, has largely maintained a low profile since leaving office. Tuesday’s FEC session will symbolically reconnect the administration’s reform agenda with the policies of the Buhari years, reinforcing continuity in governance.

Security has been tightened around the State House ahead of the meeting, with preparations already underway to host dignitaries and former administration officials.
