Tinubu Flags Off 40,000 CBM LPG Vessel, Boosts Nigeria’s Clean Energy Drive

August 18, 2025 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday commissioned West Africa Gas Limited’s (WAGL) newly built 40,000 cubic metre Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carrier, a landmark step in Nigeria’s clean energy transition and regional energy security agenda.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Tinubu described the vessel as a strategic investment that will enhance LPG distribution, expand household access to clean cooking gas, and cut reliance on traditional fossil fuels. He emphasized that the project reinforces Nigeria’s leadership in Africa’s energy sector while driving the nation’s commitment to sustainable development and carbon reduction.

The vessel, one of the largest of its kind in West Africa, is designed to improve supply efficiency and strengthen regional energy trade. Industry stakeholders at the event hailed the development, noting its alignment with the government’s long-term energy transition plan aimed at balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to support initiatives that advance clean energy adoption, promote innovation, and provide affordable alternatives for millions of Nigerian households.
