ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday formally received Letters of Credence from newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners representing several countries from the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU), reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to fostering diplomatic cooperation and regional integration.
The ceremony, held at the State House in Abuja, was attended by top government officials, foreign envoys, and senior diplomats, reflecting Nigeria’s strategic importance as a political and economic player within both the African and global community.
President Tinubu welcomed the envoys to Nigeria and urged them to consider their postings as a critical bridge for deepening bilateral and multilateral relations. He expressed confidence in their capacity to strengthen ties in areas such as trade, security, climate action, education, and technology.
“Your presence here today is a testament to the strong and enduring relationships between Nigeria and your respective countries. We remain committed to building mutually beneficial partnerships that promote peace, stability, and inclusive growth across Africa and Europe,” the President said.
Among the diplomats received were representatives from key EU member nations as well as strategic African allies. President Tinubu used the occasion to highlight Nigeria’s readiness to work with international partners to tackle cross-border challenges, including terrorism, irregular migration, and the effects of climate change.
He also reiterated his administration’s focus on economic reform, investment promotion, and innovation, noting that Nigeria’s current policy environment offers new opportunities for collaboration in infrastructure development, renewable energy, agriculture, and digital transformation.
On the African front, the President emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity within the AU framework, calling on member states to work closely in achieving the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and continental peace initiatives.
The envoys expressed appreciation for the warm reception and pledged to advance the interests of their home countries while supporting Nigeria’s national development priorities.
The event underscores the Tinubu administration’s proactive foreign policy stance aimed at repositioning Nigeria as a regional anchor and a global partner of consequence.
