Tinubu Returns to Abuja Ahead of Schedule After Talks with Macron

Abuja, Nigeria | Tuesday, September 16, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to arrive in Abuja today, September 16, 2025, ahead of schedule to resume official duties after a working visit to Paris, France.

While in Paris, President Tinubu held a strategic meeting with his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron, at the Élysée Palace. Both leaders discussed ways to deepen Nigeria–France relations, focusing on economic cooperation, security collaboration, and global stability.

According to presidential aides, the discussions centred on boosting bilateral trade, attracting French investments into Nigeria’s infrastructure and energy sectors, and enhancing security cooperation to tackle terrorism and organized crime in West Africa. Tinubu also stressed Nigeria’s readiness to expand partnerships that support the country’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in job creation and technology transfer.

The meeting, diplomatic observers note, underscores France’s interest in strengthening its presence in Africa’s largest economy, while Nigeria continues to court foreign partnerships to drive growth and regional stability.

President Tinubu’s early return is expected to allow him attend to pressing national matters, including ongoing economic reforms, fuel distribution strategies, and preparations for upcoming international engagements.
