President says adherence to the Holy Book will foster peace, unity, and prosperity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerian Muslims to strictly adhere to the teachings and values of the Holy Qur’an, emphasizing that such commitment is key to the nation’s peace, unity, and progress.
The President made this appeal on Saturday during the grand finale of the Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Kano, organized in memory of his late mother, Hajiya Abibatu Mogaji. The event was spearheaded by Senator Bashir Garba Lado.
Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, President Tinubu described the Qur’an as a complete guide for humanity, a source of light, wisdom, and solace.
“This Qur’anic Recitation Competition is more than a contest of vocal prowess,” he said. “It is a spiritual journey, a testament to dedication, discipline, and devotion. The Qur’an is the divine word of Allah. Strict adherence to its teachings is essential for all Muslims to help rewrite Nigeria’s story for the better.”
He further stressed that embracing the Qur’an’s message of peace, justice, and compassion would pave the way for a more prosperous and harmonious society.
“As we witness this beautiful recitation today, let us all be reminded of the Qur’anic message of peace, unity, justice, and compassion. Let us strive to live by its teachings,” Tinubu added.
In his remarks, Senator Lado highlighted the emotional depth of the event, describing it as more than just a formal assignment. “This was a deeply personal mission that reflects the President’s values, his respect for legacy, his fidelity to memory, and the everlasting power of maternal love,” he said.
He paid tribute to the late Hajiya Abibatu Mogaji, calling her a woman of spirit and enduring values. “When a man loses his father, he loses an anchor. But when he loses his mother, he loses the sky, the shade of unconditional love, the whisper of midnight prayers, the lap that comforted even the strongest man. All that remains is memory.”
Lado also extended prayers to the late Hajiya Zulaihat Buhari, mother of former President Muhammadu Buhari, acknowledging her role in raising a man of discipline and honor.
The event drew Islamic scholars, political figures, and community leaders, who commended the initiative as a means of promoting Islamic scholarship and moral values among young Muslims.
