Tinubu’s Government Heading Towards Crisis, Warns Former APC Vice Chairman

A former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the North-West, Salihu Lukman, has raised alarm over the state of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, claiming that the government is heading towards an electoral catastrophe. According to Lukman, if the current policies and leadership style continue, the APC may face a serious defeat in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Saturday, Lukman sharply criticized President Tinubu for what he described as erratic decision-making, likening his leadership to that of a military dictatorship. He pointed to controversial moves such as the removal of fuel subsidies, the floating of the naira exchange rate, and the imposition of sanctions on Niger Republic after its 2023 military coup. Lukman argued that these decisions were taken without adequate consultations with stakeholders and without a clear, cohesive plan for the country’s future.

He also expressed concerns about the growing isolation of the APC under President Tinubu’s leadership. Lukman noted that the party’s internal organs had been sidelined, making it harder for the party to effectively engage with the issues facing Nigerians. He added that the president’s leadership style had become increasingly autocratic, with limited opportunities for constructive criticism or internal debate.

Lukman further criticized the administration’s handling of the economy, noting that policies implemented so far have not helped alleviate the rising poverty and unemployment levels in the country. He raised questions about whether President Tinubu is genuinely committed to securing a second term, given the ongoing economic challenges and the apparent disregard for the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

The former APC vice chairman also pointed to the administration’s exclusionary approach to governance, with reports suggesting that even senior government officials have limited access to the president. He drew a comparison between Tinubu’s leadership and past military regimes, accusing the current government of being less open to consultation and feedback.

In conclusion, Lukman warned that unless President Tinubu makes significant changes to both his leadership style and policy approach, the APC risks alienating voters and facing a potential electoral defeat in 2027. He called for a return to democratic principles within the party and for policies that prioritize the needs and well-being of the Nigerian people.
