In a move reflecting the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and strategic governance, members of the National Communications Team met recently in Abuja to assess the mid-term performance of government communications under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The meeting, led by key presidential communication aides including Mr. Bayo Onanuga and Mr. Temitope Ajayi (Dare), provided a platform for a comprehensive review of the team’s activities, messaging strategies, and public engagement efforts since the administration assumed office. Held behind closed doors, the session focused on evaluating communication outcomes and sharpening approaches ahead of the next phase of the government’s term.
Established by President Tinubu shortly after his inauguration in 2023, the National Communications Team was designed to harmonise all public messaging channels of the federal government and ensure that information about policies, programmes, and performance reaches citizens clearly, factually, and consistently.
The team comprises senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, leadership of public information agencies, and aides from the Presidency responsible for media, digital communication, strategic messaging, and public affairs. This inclusive structure has helped foster a commendable synergy between the various arms of the government’s communication apparatus.
During the review, stakeholders acknowledged that the team’s coordinated efforts had enhanced the clarity, reach, and impact of government communications, particularly in addressing misinformation, promoting public awareness, and projecting the administration’s achievements across sectors.
“The synergy we’ve built within this team is not only commendable but unprecedented in recent political history,” said one senior official at the session. “We are constantly refining our methods to better serve Nigerians with timely, accurate, and impactful information.”
As part of the meeting’s resolutions, the team pledged to deepen its citizen engagement strategy, enhance digital platforms, and maintain a proactive stance on issues affecting national perception and policy reception. Emphasis was also placed on using communication to foster national unity, economic confidence, and democratic participation.
Analysts view the strategic communication approach adopted by the Tinubu administration as one of the more structured and disciplined efforts in recent memory. With rising public scrutiny and the rapid evolution of the information ecosystem, such a team becomes vital in managing narratives and building trust between government and citizens.
As the administration marks its mid-term, the communications team appears poised to double its efforts in bridging the gap between policy and people, using the power of words, data, and storytelling to reflect the government’s agenda and progress.
