Trailblazer in Heels: Governor Sanwo-Olu Honours Guinness World Record Holder, Ayelabola Ololade

In a moment of pride for Lagos and Nigeria at large, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, received Ayelabola Ololade, the newly crowned Guinness World Record holder for the longest distance walked on a catwalk by a model, at the Lagos House in Marina.

The historic feat, which has garnered global attention, not only celebrates personal determination and resilience but also positions Nigeria’s fashion and creative industries on the world stage. Ololade’s record-breaking walk—an extraordinary display of poise, endurance, and discipline—was officially recognised by the Guinness World Records earlier this month, cementing her name in global history.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, while congratulating the young model during the reception, described her accomplishment as inspirational and a testament to the limitless potential of Nigerian youth when given the platform to excel.

“You have made Lagos and the entire nation proud. This achievement goes beyond fashion—it is about showing the world what is possible when talent, hard work, and courage meet. You have walked not just a distance, but into history,” the Governor said.

He further lauded Ololade as a symbol of the vibrant spirit of Lagos—a city known for setting trends and breaking boundaries across industries. The governor expressed his administration’s continued support for young creatives and innovators pushing the boundaries of possibility.

Ayelabola Ololade, visibly elated, thanked the governor for the honour and recognition, stating that the journey to setting the world record was driven by a passion to showcase Nigerian excellence and inspire others, especially young women, to dream beyond societal limitations.

Her record-setting walk, which spanned a remarkable distance over several hours in heels, was completed under strict guidelines and verified by Guinness officials. It has since sparked praise across the fashion world and social media, with many hailing her as a beacon of creativity, resilience, and national pride.

The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to nurturing talent across all sectors, particularly through its Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, which continues to champion initiatives in support of the creative economy.

As the reception drew to a close, Governor Sanwo-Olu presented Ololade with a plaque of commendation, encouraging her to continue serving as an ambassador of Lagos excellence.

With her name now etched into the record books, Ayelabola Ololade’s story is proof that with courage and focus, the runway can indeed become a global pathway to greatness.
