Transmission Company of Nigeria Begins Rebuilding Collapsed Towers on Kainji-Birnin Kebbi Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced urgent reconstruction works on three transmission towers that collapsed along the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line on May 7, 2025. The collapse, caused by severe wind conditions, resulted in significant power outages affecting Sokoto, Kebbi, and parts of Kaduna states.

To fast-track the restoration process, TCN deployed three contractors, each responsible for rebuilding one of the collapsed towers. This coordinated effort aims to restore full power supply on the affected line as swiftly as possible. Meanwhile, alternative power supply routes have been activated to reduce the impact of the outage.

Currently, Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi are receiving between 6 to 7 megawatts of electricity through the Mando Transmission Substation via the 132kV Mando-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto-Birnin Kebbi line, providing some relief to affected consumers.

TCN has assured the public and affected communities of its commitment to completing the reconstruction promptly while expressing regret for the inconvenience caused by the disruption. The company urges stakeholders to remain patient as efforts continue to restore stable electricity supply to the impacted regions.
