Transportation Ministry Launches ACTU Unit to Curb Corruption, Promote Transparency

July 29, 2025, Abuja — The Federal Ministry of Transportation has officially inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), as part of efforts to entrench accountability, integrity, and zero tolerance for corruption within the Ministry and its agencies.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary (DOOPS), Musa Ibrahim, represented by the Director of Special Duties, Dr. Vivian Nwosu, said the initiative reflects the Ministry’s unwavering resolve to promote transparency, fairness, and honesty in government operations.

According to him, the ACTU will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with ethical standards, monitoring the implementation of policies, and mitigating corruption risks. “The Unit will serve as champions of our integrity drive, developing anti-corruption strategies, providing enlightenment programs for staff, and investigating potential corruption cases in collaboration with relevant stakeholders,” he stated.

On behalf of ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, the Head of Systems Study and Review Division, Mr. Jude Okoye, commended the Ministry for facilitating the establishment of the unit. He emphasized that ACTU functions as an internal control mechanism to identify systemic weaknesses and enforce ethical standards across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Okoye added that the ACTU will support the Ministry’s mandate of building a world-class, safe, and efficient intermodal transportation system that strengthens Nigeria’s position as a regional hub. Its duties, he explained, include conducting periodic staff sensitization, corruption risk assessments, and reviewing organizational systems prone to corruption while recommending actionable solutions.

The newly inaugurated ACTU Chairman, Mr. Nasiru Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to lead with transparency, teamwork, and commitment to the mission of integrity. He called for cooperation from all staff to achieve the Unit’s goals.

The Ministry assured that it would provide the ACTU with resources, capacity building, and access to data to enable it to function effectively in promoting accountability and transparency at all times.
