Troops Kill Notorious Terrorist Leader Auta, 14 Others in Zamfara

Zamfara State, Nigeria – June 12, 2025

In a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency in the North-West, Nigerian troops have neutralised a notorious terrorist leader known as Auta alongside 14 of his fighters during a successful military operation in Zamfara State.

According to military sources, the operation was conducted by troops of Operation Hadarin Daji who stormed a terrorist hideout in Dansadau forest, a known haven for armed bandits and insurgents in the state. The offensive was based on credible intelligence reports and followed sustained aerial and ground surveillance.

Auta, who had long been on the military’s most wanted list, was said to be behind multiple attacks on communities, abductions for ransom, and the killing of security personnel across Zamfara and neighbouring states.

A senior military official confirmed that several arms and ammunition were recovered during the operation, including AK-47 rifles, machine guns, and hundreds of rounds of live ammunition. Efforts are ongoing to dismantle remnants of Auta’s network and secure the surrounding communities.

Reacting to the development, Defence Headquarters hailed the operation as a “significant stride” in restoring peace to the troubled region and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the momentum.

“This success is a testament to the effectiveness of ongoing counterterrorism efforts and the bravery of our troops,” the statement read.

Residents in Dansadau and its environs have expressed relief at the news, with many hopeful that the latest military victory will usher in lasting peace after years of fear and insecurity.
