Two people are feared dead and one abducted following a violent bandit attack on the Faruruwa village market in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State. The attack occurred on Thursday night while the weekly market was bustling with traders and residents from nearby communities. Gunmen stormed the market, opening fire and causing panic among the crowd.
During the assault, Alhaji Rabilu, a well-known local businessman, was shot dead. Another individual sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh and was rushed to Bichi General Hospital for treatment. Additionally, a young boy was abducted by the attackers, further deepening the community’s distress.
Residents described the village as being engulfed in grief and fear following the incident, which has sent shockwaves through the already vulnerable community. Preparations for the burial of Alhaji Rabilu are underway, with the funeral expected to take place within the next day in accordance with Islamic rites.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the Kano State Police Command have so far been unsuccessful, and no formal statement has been issued regarding the attack.
