UAE Introduces New Rules for Travellers Carrying Valuables Worth $16,000 and Above

August 11, 2025

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities have announced stricter regulations for travellers transporting valuables valued at $16,000 (approximately AED 58,700) or more.

Under the new directive, all passengers entering or leaving the UAE must declare such valuables at the point of entry or departure. The category includes cash, precious metals, luxury watches, high-end jewellery, and other items of significant financial value. The measure is aimed at enhancing border security, curbing money laundering, and preventing the illicit movement of wealth across international borders.

Officials warned that failure to declare valuables exceeding the stipulated amount could lead to confiscation, fines, or legal action. Travellers are encouraged to present receipts or proof of purchase for their items to facilitate the declaration process.

The UAE government reiterated its commitment to aligning with global best practices in financial security while ensuring that legitimate travellers can move their possessions without unnecessary hindrance, provided they comply with the declaration rules.
