The United Kingdom Government has awarded 85 Nigerians the prestigious Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom beginning in 2025.
According to the British High Commission, the cohort consists of 39 Chevening scholars, one Chevening fellow, and 45 Commonwealth scholars.
A pre-departure reception was held in Abuja on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, to celebrate recipients from the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states, while a similar event is scheduled to take place in Lagos this September.
Speaking at the Abuja ceremony, the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Lever, congratulated the awardees, describing their achievement as the result of a “highly competitive application and interview process.” She emphasized that the scholarships reflect the UK’s ongoing commitment to supporting Nigeria’s next generation of leaders.
The scholarships will enable the beneficiaries to pursue various master’s and doctoral programmes at top universities across the United Kingdom.
