Ukrainian Embassy Hails Nigeria’s Solidarity, Opens Condolence Register for War Victims

Abuja, Nigeria – August 11, 2025

The Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria has expressed deep appreciation for Nigeria’s continued solidarity with the Ukrainian people amid the ongoing war with Russia. In a statement issued in Abuja, the embassy announced the opening of a condolence register to honour the memory of civilians and soldiers who have lost their lives since the conflict began.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Nigeria, Andriy Yermolayev, commended the Nigerian government, civil society, and citizens for their unwavering support in condemning Russia’s aggression and advocating for peace. He noted that Nigeria’s consistent voice at the United Nations and other diplomatic platforms reflects a shared commitment to justice, sovereignty, and human rights.

The condolence register, which will remain open at the embassy for a week, allows Nigerians and members of the diplomatic community to pay tribute to victims of the war, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions since February 2022.

Yermolayev urged the global community to sustain pressure on Russia to end hostilities, reiterating that the human cost of the war is mounting daily. He added that Ukraine remains committed to defending its territorial integrity and securing a just peace for its citizens.

The embassy also called on humanitarian organizations to intensify support for displaced families, including those facing severe shortages of food, shelter, and medical care as winter approaches in Eastern Europe.
