Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the federal government’s commitment to improving access to ear, nose, and throat (ENT) healthcare services across Nigeria. Speaking on Thursday evening, during a courtesy visit from the Otorhinolaryngological Society of Nigeria (ORLSON) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Vice President emphasized the urgent need for significant upgrades to Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure, with particular focus on ENT care.
Vice President Shettima stressed that the rising cases of hearing loss and the scarcity of specialized medical personnel in the ENT field have become critical concerns. He called for immediate action to address these challenges, noting that there is an urgent need to improve facilities and resources to provide better care for Nigerians suffering from ENT-related conditions.
During the visit, which was led by ORLSON President, Prof. Aliyu Mohammed Kodiya, the Vice President assured the delegation that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to tackling key issues in the ENT sector. Specifically, he highlighted the administration’s focus on resolving infrastructure deficits, acquiring necessary medical equipment, and addressing the growing issue of medical brain drain, which has resulted in a shortage of skilled professionals in the country.
The Vice President’s remarks reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to prioritize healthcare reforms, ensuring that Nigerians have access to the medical services they need. Through these initiatives, the administration aims to improve the overall quality of healthcare and address the pressing concerns facing the ENT sector.
