VP Shettima Arrives Addis Ababa to Represent Nigeria at UN Food Systems Summit

Addis Ababa, July 28, 2025 — Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has arrived in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, to represent the country at the Second United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit, scheduled to hold from July 27 to 29.

The Vice President’s aircraft landed at approximately 4:26 p.m. local time at the Bole International Airport, where he was warmly received by Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, alongside top Nigerian diplomatic and military officials stationed in the country.

Welcoming the Vice President were the Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Ethiopia, Ambassador Nasir Aminu; Finance Attaché Dr. Suleiman Dauda; Deputy Defence Attaché (Air Force) Wing Commander Gabriel Batubo; Deputy Head of Mission Ambassador Macy Ogbede; First Secretary Mr. Jangado Ishaku; and other embassy staff.

Senator Shettima’s attendance at the high-level summit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to global food security and sustainable agricultural practices. The summit, convened by the United Nations, brings together world leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to evaluate progress and chart new strategies for building resilient food systems across the globe.

The Vice President is expected to highlight Nigeria’s food security initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda, share progress on local agricultural reforms, and advocate for stronger partnerships to tackle hunger and malnutrition in Africa.
