VP Shettima to Lead Third-Day Prayers for Late President Buhari in Daura

Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to lead a high-powered federal delegation to Daura, Katsina State, for the third-day prayer in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82.

Acting on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President will be joined by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State, as well as several ministers, senior government officials, and political associates of the late president for the solemn occasion. The prayer session is scheduled to hold tomorrow, July 17, at the residence of the late statesman in Daura.

The visit forms part of national mourning activities in memory of the former president, whose death last week in London drew tributes from across Nigeria and beyond. Buhari, a retired Major General and former military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, later served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.

Vice President Shettima is expected to deliver a condolence message on behalf of the Federal Government and offer prayers with other mourners for the peaceful repose of the late leader. The event is anticipated to draw traditional rulers, religious leaders, and dignitaries from various parts of the country.

Since the announcement of Buhari’s death, Nigeria has observed a national mourning period, with flags flown at half-mast and tributes pouring in for a man widely regarded as one of the country’s most influential political figures. The third-day prayer marks another significant moment in honouring his legacy.
