Wike Applauds Tinubu for Lifting Emergency Rule in Rivers State

Port Harcourt, Nigeria | September 18, 2025

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for lifting the emergency rule earlier imposed on Rivers State, describing the decision as a reaffirmation of the President’s commitment to democratic governance and stability.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, noted that the lifting of the measure would allow the state government and its people to fully exercise their constitutional rights without the limitations posed by emergency restrictions. He said the move had restored confidence among residents and stakeholders, who had expressed concerns about the long-term impact of the policy on governance, security, and the economy of the oil-rich state.

“President Tinubu has once again demonstrated that his Renewed Hope Agenda is not just about economic recovery, but also about strengthening democracy, protecting the rule of law, and ensuring that no state is left behind,” Wike stated.

He added that the removal of emergency rule would boost investor confidence, improve security collaboration, and foster greater political inclusiveness in Rivers, which remains one of Nigeria’s strategic economic hubs.

Political observers believe the President’s action is aimed at consolidating peace in the South-South region, where tensions had risen following the imposition of emergency measures earlier this year.

Wike urged political leaders and citizens of Rivers State to embrace the gesture by promoting unity, peace, and development, assuring that the state is now better positioned to contribute to Nigeria’s overall growth.
