Wike Bringing Governance Closer to FCT Residents – President Tinubu Declares

Abuja, July 1, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his active and inclusive leadership, stating that his efforts are bringing governance closer to the people of the territory.

The President made the remarks while speaking at a public function in Abuja, where he acknowledged the infrastructural strides and citizen-focused policies initiated under Wike’s stewardship. Tinubu said the FCT Minister has demonstrated uncommon passion in ensuring that residents of the capital feel the direct impact of government.

“Wike is taking governance to the grassroots of the FCT. He is making the government visible, accessible, and result-oriented. His commitment to improving public infrastructure, sanitation, security, and service delivery is commendable,” President Tinubu stated.

Since assuming office as FCT Minister, Wike has embarked on an ambitious urban renewal programme, including the rehabilitation of roads, street lighting, waste management reforms, and addressing bureaucratic bottlenecks affecting development projects. He has also introduced people-centered engagements such as town hall meetings and project monitoring tours to bridge the gap between policy-makers and residents.

President Tinubu, who had previously described Wike as “a performer and a doer,” reiterated his administration’s resolve to reward competence, stressing that results, not politics, would continue to guide appointments and responsibilities under his leadership.

In response, Minister Wike reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda by transforming the FCT into a model of governance excellence. He expressed appreciation for the President’s support and pledged to sustain ongoing reforms to enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Stakeholders across the FCT have also lauded the minister’s approach, noting that his direct interaction with communities and rapid response to infrastructural needs have restored public trust in government institutions.
