Abuja — June 27, 2025
In a significant move toward restoring political harmony in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, publicly expressed their renewed commitment to sustaining peace during a Thursday night interview conducted by Sunday Moses, official videographer to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The duo, whose prolonged political rift had unsettled governance and stability in the state, declared an end to hostilities and emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration.
Wike, addressing the reconciliation, stated:
“We have all agreed to work together. Everything is over. We are members of the same political family. As humans, we have disagreements. We also have time to settle the disagreements. There is no more acrimony. Everything is over. It’s a day we have to thank the Almighty.”
Governor Fubara echoed the sentiment, stressing the value of unity and stability for the people of Rivers State.
“It’s important that this day has come. What we need in Rivers is peace. We shall do everything in our power to sustain peace in Rivers State.”
This latest development follows President Tinubu’s continuous mediation efforts, including the landmark peace accord initiated in December 2023 and his imposition of a political ceasefire in March 2025 amid escalating tensions.
Observers see Thursday’s meeting as a pivotal moment in re-establishing governance focus and consolidating the ruling party’s hold in the region ahead of 2027. Political analysts believe that the public display of reconciliation is a direct result of presidential diplomacy and a shared realization of the need to de-escalate political tensions in the interest of the people.
