The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has congratulated Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on his victory at the governorship election tribunal, which upheld his electoral win in last September’s poll.
Wike, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described the judgment as a reaffirmation of the mandate freely given to Okpebholo by the people of Edo State. He expressed confidence in the governor’s ability to fulfill his campaign promises and deliver good governance to the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike urged Okpebholo to remain focused and not allow himself to be distracted by opposition elements attempting to “grab power through the back door.”
“Governor Okpebholo should remain committed to his vision for Edo State. His victory at the tribunal is not just for him but for the people who overwhelmingly voted for him. Now, he must double his efforts to bring meaningful development to the state,” the statement read.
Wike further emphasized that the governor’s early strides in office indicate a commitment to governance that will positively impact the people of Edo State.
“I believe in him, and with the way he has started, I am confident that his administration will bring much-needed progress to Edo State,” he added.
The tribunal ruling, delivered on Wednesday, dismissed petitions challenging Okpebholo’s victory, reinforcing his legitimacy as the duly elected governor of Edo State.
